I have asked another member to make enquiries on exactly that point and report back when he can post a definitive answer.

I'm afraid the signatory of that e-mail doesn't assure me of the credibility of the information therein.utilitybroker wrote: »See Post No 274 in this thread http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=8902995#post8902995
In fact, I've just had an e-mail myself from Coleen Masterson of that same 'eContact Customer Service' department assuring me that the bill I was querying clearly shows a £5/month discount - to £14.99/month - on my £17.99/month BT Total Broadband!
Ignore the error in the subtraction there and then consider that she went on to refer to the £45.93 amount on my quarterly bill being proof that I was being charged £14.99/month and you'll see the reason for my sceptisism. She clearly did not realise that £45.93 is the pre-VAT quarterly cost of the £17.99/month full price!
She also told me that the £4.95 amount shown on the (quarterly) bill was the £5/month discount. Needless to say, no £4.95 amount was shown anywhere on the bill.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0
