Wireless USB - XP doesn't recognise manufacturer's drivers!!!

Just bought a Wireless Network Adapter from eBay (okay, yes I know) but it does appear to be okay, the green light comes on when inserted into a USB. XP picks it up and asks for the drivers. The original CD was not with the stick but downloaded the drivers from the manufacturer's website. XP will just not have it, the drivers are not suitable for this device yar dee dar dee dar...

I've tried allsorts, anyone any clues? BTW, tries this on 3 different PCs so I don't think it's the config.

All adapters are different, I have a 3com one that would not work under XP. I Went thru the manufacturer's support pages and downloaded the correct driver, did the installation and presto it worked. Weren't you being prompted to install new hardware?

Another thing I found over time: The CD drivers for this sort of thing if supplied seem, to be ALWAYS out of date and non-functioning, have to go to site & download the latest.

That USB dongle uses the Zydas ZD1211 chipset. Don't worry, it's actually pretty good, and well supported in Macs and Linux too.

For windows XP, the following drivers should work:

It's usually best to get the latest drivers for these things from the manufacturer of the chipset (Zydas, in this example,) than the people who package and redistribute the dongle (Safecom.)
