need a zimmer frame quickly

This is a quick question (which for me is nothing short of a miracle).
Dad's care home have said they will take him back even though he does require a little more work than they normally handle, but they won't take him until I can get a zimmer frame.
Hospital say he can't take the one he is using there and social services are busy and have promised to call me back..so is there anywhere I can actually go and buy one, or even order one for next day delivery. The sooner I can get one the quicker dad can go home.
I'm going to sit on the phones now and see who else I can find that supplies them, but thought I would ask on here as well.
Sorry I just thought I should mention it is just a basic one I need, not a fancy one with a seat or anything.

Just a thought but if the OT at the hospital says your Dad needs the zimmer then I am sure they can supply one when he leaves... put your foot down and demand the OT department supply one... in the NHS those who shout loudest GET!! Its not safe for him to be discharged without one IS IT!!!!#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Thank you everyone. I found a local shop that sells mobility aids and am just off to buy what Dad needs.
I know the PCT should actually supply these things but there is a delay and they can't deal with me for a few days. I'd rather pay for one now and get dad back where he is happy than let his spend another week in hospital where they just abandon him in a bed all day.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Soolin remember to measure the height of the zimmer that your grandad got in the hospital so you can adjust his new one to the same height. They are easy to adjust form the clips on the legs. He will also need one of those net things (you get them in Boots for babybuggies) to clip on the front to carry his reading glasses and newspaper etc.0

May be too late soolin, but as another poster has mentioned, contact the Red Cross. My local Red Cross sold my M-i-L a nearly new zimmer frame - a very good model - for a £10 donation. Much cheaper than the equipment shops and having just had a quick peek the same model is currently £50 on ebay! Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Some zimmers have wheels and some have not, if there is carpeting it is easier with wheels (at the front) of the zimmer to enable the person to push it easier. Usually the NHS OT dept supply these free they are returned when no longer needed, there are different types some people need gutter frame zimmers, its really better to get one as recommended by the Physio or Occupational Therapist, I am surprised that the home have not stated this or that the Doctor has not said something.
Hope this has been of some help and not sounding gloomy, I work for the NHS and when patients have been discharged back into their own homes or into care placements they are supplied with zimmers, beds, rails inside house, all put in place by OT's & Social Services.
All the best

First suggestion to you is to get in touch with your local Carers Centre.
The Princess Royal Trust is a nationwide charity that is set up to assist Carers; i.e. people who look after someone else (there is no restriction as to who that person or persons may be).
The charitys are in most large cities of the UK and will have staff and support officers who can provide advice and assistance on many kinds of problem whether they are financial, benefits, aids and adaptations or even just providing days out for carers.
The Princess Royal Trust website is www.carers.org, have a look and find your nearest centre.
Dont be embarrassed or ashamed - they are used to this kind of query. Get yourself registered with them.Keep trying.........................what else is there to do?
