In credit on pay day?

Apologies if this has been covered somewhere but I didn't have a clue which keywords to use to make a search.
I was genuinely shocked a couple of weeks ago to find a work colleague's salary is spent the day following pay day and the rest of the month her bank balance is overdrawn until next pay day.
I loathe going into overdraft each month and my goal (at which I'm trying to work very hard!) is NOT to be overdrawn when my salary goes in on pay day.
Am I being naive here in thinking that most other people are NOT overdrawn each month.
OH reckons "everyone" lives on credit these days but I had the "traditional parenting" which said that "if you can't afford it you don't buy it..."
Hmmmm not very good at following that advice as I believe life is too short....!
So.....if its not too nosey
Who DOES have money left in their account the day before pay day?

i have money left every pay day, mind you, if youd have asked me about 10-12 yrs ago, id have said join the club lol, there comes a time when you got to live within your means and not on credit, and i didnt listen to those wise words that my mum said, save for that rainy day, glad to say that i dont have the troubles many others do, but its good to grab some advice, freebies and comps along the way in here x
ive not been bankrupt though, luckily i saw my problem being with the dam overdraft, and im glad to say once that was paid, i didnt ever have another0 -
Not yet, but I'm working towards it.0

No o/d here, usually have a teeny amount left, usually in my purse. I know someone who lives on credit, when things get dire they get another card. I wouldnt be able to sleep at night!0

For the last decade I am ashamed to say that I have lived in my overdraft. I have already reduced it by a thousand pounds since joining this site although I have concentrated on other debts. It is the last of my bank debts apart from the mortgage and it will be gone my April. After that I will keep a safety net but I will try by best never to go overdrawn again.Debt Free - done
Mortgage Free - done

in my student days and long after I always, always, always was in my very large overdraft, in fact my friends and I almost had a competition going to see who's overdraft was the highest! Took years to pay it off.
Now I dip in and out of the overdraft but have tried very hard these last few months to keep out of it & feel much better for seeing my account in credit each month!
Am wanting to buy a house possibly later in year so sure its not long before I'm back living in the overdraft.Who says I have to be normal?

Well done Cleosmum! I, too, know someone who just gets more and more cards and uses each of them to the max
I wouldn't be able to sleep at night either.
But then she also told me she "borrowed" money from her employer too...saying it was ok so long as she "replaced it before the accounts were submitted". :huh:0 -
My OD is now reduced to £250 and I have not gone over my OD limit for over a year - part of getting out of collections with the bank. I do however keep most of our money in my budget account after the bills have gone out then we have to justify what we are spending before we transfer it over to the current account!0
