I've been running ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite release 7.0.462.000 without mishap, on XP for quite some time.
Obviously doesn't affect everyone. So, you're generalising.

Can you point me towards a link where these unhappy people are residing?

These actually mention the issue of ZA you mention, if you do a bit of research you will see that this problem (involving True Vector) has been cropping up for several years on ZA updates.

I find it strange that someone as knowledgeable as yourself appears to be incapable of doing a quick Google (as I suggested) and finding any reference to problems with ZA.

If you need more help I will show you how to find the other 241,998 hits that I got on Google on this subject.

Perhaps these are all generalisations too !

You've sent me a link that had simply collected some links from the ZA forum.

No I didn't find any reference to the 241,998 irrelevant links you claim to have found.

In fact I did do a quick google search...and found nothing. The link that you have found is hardly sensational.

As for updates, I always download the new file and do a clean install.

No problems thus far.

You are simply scaremongering. IMHO.

Yet, you are quite happy to recommend a product that hasn't been developed for more than two years.
(Note that from November 30th, 2005 all Sygate consumer firewall products have been discontinued but this versions is available here for free use.)

I think that one can find complaints about every firewall if you look hard enough.

Because version 3.0 doesn't work with ME. It's a very old operating system now that is no longer even supported by Microsoft themselves so there's less and less incentive for the cost involved for third party manufacturers to make their software compatible with legacy operating systems. I'm sure it's taken enough of their resources to make them compatible with the current OS (i.e. Vista).

I don't think that's why the poster told the OP to use 2.4. It's because 3 isn't compatible with ME even if it were the best firewall in the world.
