Applying for 0% Purchases - how long for info to appear on Credit File?

Options
Hi,

Me and partner are each looking to apply for a card with 12m 0% apr on Purchases to pay for our upcoming honeymoon.

In total, we'd need a credit limit of about £12-13k.

We're both planning on applying seperately which would mean we'd need credit limits of £6.5k each. I imagine that this is quite a high limit to get in the first instance, so figured we may need to apply for 2 cards each.

We both have excellent credit files and no existing debt (mortgage may show but it is balanced by savings in an offset account). We use our existing cards regularly but clear them in full every month.

So here's the questions:

1. If we have no prior relationship with a CC company (other cards/accounts etc) - how likely is it that we'll get a card with 6.5k limit.

2. Assuming it's unlikely, should we apply for multiple cards on the same day (hoping that the application won't immediately appear on the file) or wait till the first one is accepted/rejected?

3. If we apply for one card first, should we go for the HSCB or Halifax cards (as in Martin's best buy table).

Any advice gratefully appreciated! TIA, Natalie

    1. Only the CC company can tell you what you'll get. Any suggestions here would be total guess work.

    2. I've applied for 2 CC's in the same day and been accepted for both. At the time, one was for purchases, the other for a balance transfer.

    3. Can't comment on the HSBC card, but I applied on-line for the Halifax card last month and got an instant decision. They gave me a £14200 limit.

Brilliant - thanks for the help. Looks like I'll give the Halifax a go first and see where we get with that :)
  • Just applied for the Halifax - as you say, instant decision: £9.5k

    Brilliant :)

I know, I know! Not very MSE is it! :o We had the same O.M.G moment when we realised how much it was going to cost, but then decided to go with it anyway :rotfl:for a number of reasons:

    1. This will be our only holiday this year (we're going for a minimum of 3 weeks)
    2. It's our honeymoon and we want something special!
    3. We plan on having kids soon after the wedding, and a round-the-world adventure will be somewhat harder when they're on the scene
    4. We've worked hard and have had some good luck which means we have this money in savings already. I'm all for looking out for the future, but I'm also acutely aware that we could die tomorrow and that money will do us no good then - we might as well enjoy our life while we can!
    5. We've been careful to strike a balance and still have sound investments that will provide for the future. A treat will do us good and give us more incentive to save more (so we can do it again)!
