OMG - 18months old. So was kmht doing a search and came across this?
Must say thought that I missed it first time round and have enjoyed reading it seeing as my own children are growing up far too fast for their own good :rolleyes:Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

P.S. on the point of the quote, I read it just the other day and I liked it - the original context is REALLY quite long but the point was that poverty makes one sharper and obviously the conclusion as stated by my quote.
I think the quote is none the more applicable than now simply because the current climate is one of spending, and debt ridden britain is a prime example, but what he said that many years ago still makes sense now - more so than then!0 -

In it's entirety:
"Of what great use poverty may be to genius, and how it may be powerful in perfecting it, may be clearly seen in the life of Pietro Perugino, who, driven from Perugia by want, came to Florence, desiring to make a position for himself by his talents. For many months, having no other bed to lie on, he slept in a box, applying himself with the utmost fervour to the study of his profession, and knowing no other pleasure than painting. For he had always before his eyes the fear of poverty, and he was spurred by want, desiring, if he could not be highest and supreme, at least to have wherewith to support himself. Therefore he cared neither for cold, nor hunger, nor discomfort, nor fatigue, that he might one day live at ease, quoting always the proverbs, that after bad weather must come good, and that in fine weather you should build the house to cover you when you need it." - Giorgio Vasari0 -
