Friday 22/02/2008 What small dfw thing have you done today???

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free.

Examples could be charging your phone up at work instead of at home to save your electricity, hanging the washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important.

Today I have
  • Checked online banking
  • Done clicks
  • Lunch from storecupboard
  • No tea needed as being taken out for a meal for friend's birthday tonight
  • Shared cost of friend's gift with two other friend's:D
  • Will be sharing taxi tonight too:D
  • Found some still tagged clothes in wardrobe to wear tonight instead of buying new outfit;)
Think that's all for today. Hope you all have a good day at home or at work:D

    hi everyone,

Well after setting myself a big list the other day, which I actually did very little of (:o i was full of cold....excuses, escuses...), I have been very productive today - yay!

    I have:

    - swapped the home insurance from barclays to admiral, saving approx £15 per month :money:

    - phoned to cancel my virgin card and been offered a 1.9% intrest rate with 1.5 % transfer fee - cheaper than the 6.9% LOB rate i was paying at barlcaycard. I have transfered the balance to virgin :T

    - got my temp clubcard points transferred to my new 'proper' clubcard

    - sticking to my menu plan for the day, eating from fridge / freezer / cupboard stock.

I also seemed to have successfully persuaded OH that
    a) he needs to budget, and
    b) we need to budget properly to pay off our joint acc overdraft instead of just throwing wedding present money at it later in the year. :D

I've also started sowing the seeds of 'lets not spend much more on food this month' (it is the beginning of our joint budget month) with OH. I think if i can plan the menus it will be ok and we'll just need milk and poss some fruit and veg. I'm goin to be strict! :D

I'm due to pick the cat up from the vet later so think the bill there will be a bit hefty (chest xray and dental) but we'll be able to claim most of it back from the pet insurance provider.

    Have a good day everyone!

    Ali x
