I tried to remember to take a couple of carriers in on delivery day, and it wasn't too bad to transport home in those (in the box though, no chance!!) Hope this may work for you!

Just finished Not On The Label and I really wanted an organic box but what can you do when you work all day and live in a block of flats where there's nowhere to leave a box when you're out (neighbours not an option)? As most of them deliver when you are out at work.

I live in a block of flats too - the organic box company have a copy of the front door (building entrance) key and I just leave the empty box outside my flat with a cheque in an envelope - might be a possibilty for you unless you have a lot of people walking past your flat door and are worried about it being nicked. (I live on the top floor so nobody comes up here apart from the postman and neighbours).

The programme hasn't finished yet and I'm already thinking about alternative places to buy meat from, other than the supermarket.

I don't want to feed my family poor quality meat. I want them to know what real food tastes like.

I have already switched to an organic fruit and veg delivery and I will have a look at changing my meat supplier too.

I also really feel that it is important to support local businesses. This why the supermarkets can get away with what they do, because there is no competition for them.

It makes you think doesn't it?

Flippin' 'eck!! I knew that there were some really unscrupulous chicken rearers around (I won't buy Bernard Matthews for example) but I'm thinking local chickens for me now, and maybe organic if I can afford it! Luckily, I don't buy ready meals/pre-prepared chicken things. About the only meat I buy from Tesco now is chicken - I don't think so from now on.

Don't forget to watch next Monday at 8pm.

OMG!!!!! that was totally awful!! i couldnt believe it, those poor chickens in such disgusting conditions, i will never, never buy a supermarket chicken again regardless of how much "value" they are.

did i hear right????...there is more fat in a chicken than in red meat nowadays.....

how totally terrible and horrifying that programme was and good on them for airing it so we can all hear and see the dreadful truth for ourselves enough to make an informed choice from now on..

I agree newunk. I feel terrible that I've been buying supermarket chickens and supporting these wicked practises for so long.

Can anyone tell me if organic chickens from the supermarket definitely would have had reasonable lives and are safe for me to buy?

I watched as much as I could, my mum couldn't watch it! She asked why I wanted to watch it when it was so horrible, I wanted to watch it so that I would change my ways.

One of the scariest bits was about the drugs they give chickens, they have no idea what the effect is on humans, or how much is safe for us. Yet they have picked from random it would seem, a 'safe' level of the drug. I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the drug. We have no idea of the effect of this on our health, and I'm sure there are many other similar chemicals!

I move out of my parents house and in with my boyfriend on Monday, I'm hoping to buy organic right from the start. At first I was just thinking organic fruit and veg, but now thinking everything, or as much as we can afford!
Proud to be a moneysaver!

Be warned that you get what you pay for - quality chickens will cost a lot more, which might mean eating chicken less often often or doing things like stir frys, risottos to make them go further - I do think it's worth it though for the taste benefits and the peace of mind. :)

You could try one of these two, both are excellent:

    (price includes delivery)

Organic Chickens from Otter Valley Poultry
(Free delivery on orders over £30)
