Camping Insurance, HELP!

I have just received a renewal quote for insurance for my tent and camping equipment. It has gone up by 90%!
I am struggling to find other insurers who offer this type of cover.
Can anyone help?

Is it not covered under your household insurance?0

Yes, lots of policies do cover you under a 'property temporarily out of the home' clause. This usually also applies to your holiday packing when you go away on holiday, along with a certain amount of cash - but so many people don't realise this and insure again on their Travel Insurance Policy even though you can opt out of these options to get yourself a cheaper Travel Policy.
I am camping next weekend - I just hope the weather improves - I am not sure we are covered for flood!:EasterBun

Be careful with the "Temporary removal of contents" section of a standard household policy. The cover is normally pretty limited - both in terms of financial limits and what is actually covered. For example, theft often requires forcible and violent entry - a bit difficult from a tent! Flood or storm damage of any property not inside a building is generally excluded. There won't be any accidental damage cover.
You should consider the add-on "Personal belongings" cover to your standard Contents cover, which will give a far wider cover - theft, accidental damage, etc.
You will need to specify a financial limit and there will be an additional premium payable. But it should be cheaper than a separate stand-alone policy.0 -
Most household or travel insurances will not cover theft or damage to tents. For specific insurance on tents etc try https://www.portwood.co.uk
I don't know how much your renewal is with the 90% is but the prices given don't seem expensive and Fortis are a well respected insurance firm.

Agreed that the cover isn't standard, but you can often pay an additional premium to cover camping equipment. For example, our current household policy with Norwich Union specifically mentions cover for camping equipment "for a small extra cost" under the "Personal belongings in and away from your home" section. You'll obviously need to refer to your own policy wording.
Still likely to be cheaper as an add-on to your main household policy rather than as a stand-alone cover.0
