Phone rings and says you have won a holiday rubbish

The phone rings and there is an answer machine playing a message: Hi you have won a holiday to Florida?
I slam the phone down and when I pick it back up the message is still playing? They have hold of my phone and wont let me go?????
How the hell do they hold my phone to ransom? Once it took about thirty goes of my finger tapping the phone before the line went dead.

I believe that if you try it with any incoming phone call you can put the phone down and as long as they dont you pick it up again and the call is still there. It is prob a problem at their end with not picking up when you slam the phone down, but yes they are bloody annoying!!!!!!!!!
