Save money and the environment with Biodiesel

I drive a Picasso, and have been using 5% blend biodiesel as and when I can get it - which sadly isn't that often because there's nowhere near here that sells it.... Car always sounds smoother running on it though, and seems to have more grunt low end... invariably smells less bad coming out the tailpipe too. There are 10 types of people in the world, those that understand binary and those that don't
In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice0 -
Actually the duty on biodiesel is about half that of ordinary diesel, but commercial production is small scale and has higher costs, thus there is little overall cost saving for bought fuel.carl310166 wrote:This Biodiesel thing does show the government don't give two hoots about encouraging renewable energy sources when the tax is so high,it should be half the price, like normal diesel, why is it more expensive than unleaded fuel ?
I even read lobbying information from a company known in the field of greener fuels who wanted full duty relief on their 5% blend, but no relief whatsoever on local and home-made production. Blatantly cynical self-interest I think.
In Germany I believe there is no duty on bio, and this makes the product about 10 to 15% cheaper, but not available in all garages; I've used it where I've found it, with no problems at all.
I did speak to the technical people at Citroen to enquire if it would be ok on my '99 Xantia. No problem. Some older cars may need fuel pipes changing, as the fuel dissolves some of them.
There's plenty to be found on the internet. Sometime soon I'll get round to it. I'd save several hundred pounds a year on present mileage.0 -

I believe that the Biodiesel has a 'cleaning' action and clears a lot of crud (I believe that is the technical termDO_YOU_KNOW_DAVE wrote:and also ran my E-reg V.W. Caddy Pick Up on it to, the only problem I had with that was a blocked fuel filter, which most probably needed changing any way.

That is very correct.0

but the Crud only comes from the "normal" Diesel.0

Yes, sorry Lenny3 I didn't make that very clear did I.0

Hope this isn't premature but I've been looking for biodiesel for ages in Birmingham for my Campervan. A local transport company have started making their own and hope to have some available to sell from this weekend. Email me if you want the details of where to get it from: biodiesel at makesavings.com0
