How Long Do Searches Take?

Folks,
I'm currently in the process of buying a house. Any guidance on how long searches take from instructing the solicitor to start the searches?

If you have paid for the searches, there is no reason why they couldn't be applied for on the next working day. Check that your solicitor isn't going to wait for your mortgage offer to be issued before applying for the searches. The searches should take anything from 1-14 days to be returned, depending on what method your solicitor is using.
  • Our searches took 4 days but we were initially told 3-4 weeks as that used to be the norm.
It's not paranoia if they really are after you.
  • So is there any chance I could stretch the searches to take 3-4 weeks

There is a tactical reason - for the house purchase to fit in with the end of my rental agreement</p>

You won't have any input on how long the searches take, thats down to the council/search company. If you want to tie the end of your rental agreement in with purchase, your better of talking to the agent/solicitor involved & get them to pass the information up the chain, it will cut out a lot of potential stress for all concerned later on.
