Problems with Argos tft monitor?

Can anyone help please?
For those of you fortunate enough to have got a tft monitor for the now infamous £42....
The first one appeared to have a problems in that it would flash on and off intermittently....I changed the VGA cable and that improved things a bit and noticed that if I 'wiggled' the cable when it went off...that it would come back on. It was a bit of a pain........so I took it back to Argos today and exchanged it.
Would you believe it....this next one is even worse....picture flashes on and off about every second......gave up and now back onto my old battered up 'reliable' monitor
Has anyone else had problems??
Its a right pain.......35 mile round trip and over an hour each time etc etc.........I don't think I'm doing anything wrong??!!!
Anyone had any similar problems??
Advice?
Thanks

sorry to say but mines been fine.
I've got two dead pixels though but for £42 i can live with them0 -
Petal,
do you have an alternative Monitor connection other than VGA as it may be that your graphics card whether PCI or on built may not accept the resolution?
Have a look and you what your graphics capabilities are.

Don't surpose its anything to do with your graphics card, refresh rates or resolution.
What graphics card ya got?

Thanks for the suggestions......
I don't think it is ??? the graphics card....as the first one I had (once I had changed the VGA cable to one of my own) could stay on for a few hours and then throw a little 'wobbly'.....if I wiggled the VGA cable where it connected to the monitor it would click back on........
However this replacement one flashes on and off so quickly its impossble!
No idea what type of graphics card I've got?? ??? ::)
Woul the monitor have worked at all if it was a graphics card prob?
Sorry for being such a numpty.......but I have tried to find out what graphics card I've got (save opening up the machine!)...and can't seem to find any deatils! Argh!!
Thanks a lot for the help!Many a Mickle makes a Muckle!0 -
aaaahhhhhhh........pray excuse my ignorance....when you speak about resolution etc.....is this anything to do with Hardware acceleration??(just found that panel>???)
ThanksMany a Mickle makes a Muckle!0 -
when your pc boots up does it flash then, does it flash when you are in safe mode. if it doesnt then it is not the monitor but maybe your graphics card or drivers. try changing the resolution to a lower hertz like 60 or change to 800 x 600.
do you have a mobile phone next to it?0 -
this is either todo with your graphics card being faulty,
a loose connection in the vga cable, or the resolution to high/low for you monitor / graphics card combination.
Doubt its a faulty monitor especially after you tried 2
1. to see what graphics card you have, right click on the desktop in a empry space, select properties.
2.CLick on settings tab
3. Under display it wil say plug and play montior on 'This is your graphics card'
post what it says please
4. make sure the screen res is 800 x 600 16 bit color
5. click on settings ---under adapter tab, once again your graphics card type,
click properties , make sure no errors are reported.
6. Click monitor tab make sure 'Hide modes that this monitor cant display is checkd'
7. click the screen refresh rate list box and select a low refresh rate like 50 or 60 hz
8. check if it works by clicking apply after each step.
9. under hardware acceleration take the slider all the way to the left ie none .
this all assumes you have windows xp ofcourse
hope it works0 -
Hi you wonderful folk!
Caverncity.......yep it does flash when its booted up and in safe mode too! So looks like I'm unlucky and its a faulty monitor. Changed res etc....no joy - see below!.
Nope...no mobile phone near.....will remember that and not keep it near in the future!
Gamma.....thanks so much for your wonderful instructions.....your instruactions were excellent.....I followed to the letter and sadly no joy. I think therefore it may be a faulty monitor....as I also checked it in safe mode and also still flashes when booting up! My graphics card is S3 VIRGE/DX,/GX.
I have learned loads tonight...thank you both very very much......its a whole area that I have never looked at before! Thanks
I will head off to argos and get it exchanged in the knowledge its not me!!!
Thanks again...your help is truly apprecaited.....I'll let you know how I get on.
Crickey...where did those hours vanish too.....must try and get some sleep!Many a Mickle makes a Muckle!0 -
Mine Is Working Fine0

I had a pretty similar experience with this monitor.
The first one flashed every couple of minutes, so (with some difficulty) I swapped it for another (I think the manager was trying reclaim the cheap deal), which was even worse flashing every few seconds.
My grahics card has a DVI connector and hence needs a DVI-VGA converter. I noticed that this little converter was worn - it worked with my old monitor but not the new TFT. Replacing this connector stopped the flashing. However I recently moved my system unit to plug some more kit in the back and the flashing returned slightly. I have noticed that unless the monitor cable is a certain position, then the monitor will occasionally flash. I guess it is a combination of a sensitive monitor and a slightly loose connection on my graphics card. Still providing I don't move the system unit, then it is fine.
I spoke to the manufacturer (phone number is on the box) at one point and they suggested that I change the monitor driver to Digital Flat Panel (1024 x 768) as the Plug and Play driver could cause the flashing you describe. It didn't seems to make any difference to me but might be worth trying.
Twas a frustrating experince having acquired the bargain. But it's sorted now! Hope this helps.Nice to save.0
