PS3 vs 360 online gaming

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting a new console, primarily for online gaming. Is there much between the two consoles in terms of games and community? I used to play my original XBOX online and it was great, therefore I am inclined to get a 360 - however I didn't want to dismiss the PS3 without asking the question first.
Thanks

ohh another PS3 or 360 thread.
I personally have a 360, If I was buying again I would buy a PS3 for the bluray function mainly. The 360 is wider used but thats becasue it was cheaper on launch than the PS3 and its been out longer. so people have been buying them for longer. Result there are more games out for the 360. The 360 was rushed through development as a result is the consoles untill reciently went faulty often.
The negatives xbox live costs to use for the year on the PS3 its free.
360 requres a £50+ wireless adaptor to go wireless, the PS3 has wireless built in.
sorry for not helping.
Buy a console for the games you want to play FPS then a 360 driveing etc then the PS3.0 -
My 2 cents.
PS3 - blu-ray wins! A very cheap HD movie player if nothing else. You must also buy an HDMI cable, from experience, as the cable you get is the same as a PS2 and without the HDMI, it might as well be plugged into one. It's more reliable (statistically). The online play stinks, it's laggy, poorly organised and there's no content to speak of. It's also £50 dearer plus the HDMI.
360 - many more games, cheaper games, comparable graphics (often better in comparison) to PS3. Cheaper console to start with but expensive to tool out wireless and HD-DVD is dead. Online is a lot faster, integrates nicely into the 360 operating system, lots of great content, but costs £40 a year (very good value for money, as the demos alone will stop you buying a rubbish £40 game).
At work, I get this question a lot, and I give a fair and balanced argument for both. If pushed, I will always go 360, despite the reliability problems. The reason being, the games are much much better value. If a game is release on both formats (take Devil May Cry 4) it will be invariably cheaper on 360 to buy. You will also get more game hours out of the game because of achievements which make you play longer.0 -
To stay away from the general 360 vs PS3 debate, if you're asking purely about the online gaming experience (as you seem to be), then it's pretty much uncontested that xbox live is much *much* better than the Sony offering.
And there are more people to play against (it doesn't really matter *why* there are more people, it's just the case...)0 -
As an owner of both machines, if we're talking purely online play then there's little to differentiate between them. Games on both machines often support the same number of players (though in some cases - Call of Duty 4 - for example, the PS3 offers more) and any issues ie. latency etc are chiefly to do with your connection as opposed to the machine.
However, the whole process of getting into games and arranging them with friends etc is currently a lot easier on the 360. Plus, as the 360 comes bundled with a headset there are a lot more people online who actually speak.
It really depends on what you want. If, like me, you just want to play online and aren't that bothered about talking to lots of people then the PS3's a good option as it offers all you need plus you're not paying £40 a year for the privilege. However, if the whole social interaction/making friends online thing is more your scene then the 360 is the better choice at the moment. The thing to bear in mind though is that Sony's HOME system should be out in the next couple of months, that's a massive social system that'll be free to all PS3 users, you should look it up, it could be huge.
In the end though I don't think you'll be disappointed whichever machine you buy. Word of advice though, if you get a 360 make sure it's one with a HDD, there's a game out recently (Burnout Paradise) that won't work online without one. Hopefully it's not a sign of things to come but you never know.0 -

Thanks, that exactly what I wanted to know. Not really bothered about Blu-Ray, graphics etc. Just interested in online gaming (I have no friends:rotfl:).

Xbox Live, although you pay for it, kicks !!! online. Rumours that Sony MAY be doing something some months down the line but no announcement yet from them.0
