In May 2008 I will be taking part in a challenge of a lifetime, I will be trekking the Inca Trail in Peru, South America to raise money for The National Autistic Society (NAS), the UK’s leading charity for people with autism.
The NAS is the UK’s leading charity for people with autism and their families. It runs an Autism Helpline, Advocacy for Education Service, Befriending scheme and Parent to Parent support service, as well as specialist schools and day services for people with autism.
I have chosen to raise money for the NAS because last summer my friends 5 year old daughter was diagnosed with the disorder. I decided I wanted to do something worthwhile for charity and what better than a charity will help people in a similar situation to those I love.
Taking part in the Inca Trail Trek for the NAS is a huge personal goal and my way of helping people with autism, like my friends daughter, who need support. When my training gets tough I will think about the people that will benefit from my efforts, those with autism, their families and carers.
I am hoping to raise £1500, which is still quite a long way off, but I have a busy month ahead. I am arranging a sponsored weekend walk between Winchester and Southampton (14 miles) on Saturday 15th March and returning on Sunday 16th, which my friends and I are getting sponsored for. I am also holding a carboot sale on Easter sunday and friends and family are donating items for me to sell
My trip is entirely self funded so any money I raise will go directly to the NAS. It would be great if you could support me in my efforts to raise money for the NAS and any donations would be greatly appriciated, for more information visit www.justgiving.com/trekinca4autism or visit my blog www.trekinca4autism.blogspot.com

The walk was great, we managed both days, 15 miles each day! it was very muddy and wet but we kitted ourselves out with waterproofs so were prepared for all the weather had to throw at us!!
Now we have the job of collecting all the sponsor money and boosting my fundraising total!!
(ps the write up and pictures of the walk will be on my blog sometime in the next few days)
