Help Wasps! Water & soap trick??

We have a massive amount of wasps in the house...worried one might bite the new twins. Noticed at night they swarm around the light in the loft.
I recall some method where you put a bowl of water under the light with washing up liquid in it (or maybe it was oil).....the idea being that they land in the water and cannot get out.
Anyone recall this trick?

Make a wasp trap
Take a jam jar and cut a hole in the lid about the size of a 2p. Put about a tablespoon of honey in the jar, then half fill it with warm water. Mix the 2 together and leave it where the wasps are. It will be full of wasps in no time.
If you have wasps in the loft they may have a nest up there. The trap will get rid of most but you may need to unload a whole can of fly spray in their nestNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0 -
The above trap works great in the summer too. Just leave a few around the patio or garden etc. Only put a little honey in them or they attract bees, which you don't want to killNO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

Tried the honey trick in the jar without much result (it is very windy). The solution I thought was to place a pan of water under the light so that when they land in the later (puerly randomly) they cannot get out....I thought washing up liquid or oil does the trip but I cannot recall which is best and in how much quantities? At night there are loads are the light so I bet it would help!! I am sure we have a nest somewhere.
Any ideas on how i do it?It is not MY fault that I never learned to accept responsibility!0 -
Rub a little bit of strawberry jam around the rim of your pan and then fill it with water...
works for me in summertime when plagued by little blighterssufferinsnickerinrickrastadley0 -
Best idea should be to call the local enviromental officer who will call out to deal with the problem or at least advise how to get rid.Don't ask me, Im SKINT0

Hi
My mum had wasps and our local env. health would only come out for bees.
We bought some wasp powder and when they return to their nest at dusk, puff the powder over the nest. This did the trick, then you can remove the nest. Think we bought it from wilkos.
Hope this helps ::)Mark Hughes' blue and white army0
