I have just arrived at my mums to find out that her norton software expired in April this year !! She did not know she had to do anything when it ran out (or knows what it does)

Anyway, her computer is running slower than when I last had a shot of it, it has NO protection what soever just now, so what is the quickest way to get sorted / run a scan to see if it has a virus etc

She has only gone onto the web every other day to check her email, so it's not been connected to the internet for long periods of time

Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    I had NORTON, they wanted £24 for renewal, downloaded AVG. No problems since.
    Please check the lady has a firewall, very important if not, download her a free one, I use Sygate, once gain, no problems.
    All my protection is free and does the trick, but yu do need to keep them updated.

    Install Zone Alarm (Free version) and AVG (Free)
    There better than Norton as well.

    I'd say its fine but to be sure, try http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

    You may want to renew NAV or try one of the free ones like AVG or Avast etc... Perhaps Ad-Aware/Spybot to clear up any spyware thats got in.. and Windows Update to make sure ye're all patched up :)

    If you want a quick check for viruses before you install anything else Google for;

    "online virus scan"

    You can then use any or all of the first 9 links found in the search.

  • As toxteth has said run a few on line anti virus scans prior to loading anything fresh.

    You may wish to do the same with trojan remover software like ewido or a squared, both are free to use and update regular.

    Try avast anti virus software, I believe that it has an auto update facility, but I am not 100% about that.

    PS. it is also free.
