Halifax Credit Cards

Hi everyone:beer:

Just had to call Halifax as I missed a payment by 3 days. Actually, a very odd automated message called me and asked me to verify identity so I hung up and then remembered I must be late with a payment. Trouble is, 1. had no statement this month delivered..really! 2. I paid more than was needed anyway just after that call and then rang them to see what the charges would be.

£12 for late payment. Explained everything and Mike from the lovell Park leeds office said that their system does not allow for refunds as it wasn't a bank error. I debated that there must be a way around this or a system override but apparently not. So even if they make a mistake and you ring about it, they will not do anything unless it was a banking error.

I've asked for a copy of their terms and conditions and also a copy of my credit card agreement. We'll see yet!!!

Standard charge for most credit cards
If you break the agreement you must pay the following default charges :- £12.00 each time that your payment has not reached your account in cleared funds by the date your payment is due.

I had the same thing, I have always paid my card online in full every month, last year I had a late payment by one day due to being on holiday, and had to pay the £12, all you can do is put it down to experience and make sure it does not happen again.

Now I always check the amount due online rather than wait for the statement, and make sure the transaction is completed at least three working days before the payment is due.

You can try but I doubt they will give you a refund.
  • Thanks for the reply Cajef. 1 day late is a bit steep - I thought 3 days was poor!!

Will vote with my feet me thinks :-)

I can always ask for a copy of T& C's and a copy of my CCA each month to make sure I have a copy - just until it costs them £12 in postage :rotfl:
