Halifax and experian

Hi people...

I just had a weird experience. Perhaps somebody can shed some light on it.

I applied for the Halifax 12 month spending card today, and within a few hours had a call asking for some details from my application... Ok, it's not too personal, and no passwords being asked for, so I'm not too worried.

Next this guy asks for an experian password.. So I asked what it is, and he said that I must have given experian a password. So I have to tell him, I have no idea what it means to have an experian password, and so couldn't possibly have one.. He told me that the application would have to be refused and ended the call..

Ok...
1. Asking for a password at all is dodgy. Perhaps this was a phishing attempt.
2. Perhaps there is such a thing as an experian password. In which case this is going to cause me more problems in the future.

Anyone else come across this kind of thing?

UPDATE:.. Sorry to post and update so quickly.

I contacted Halifax and after being bounced around quite a few departments I found an answer. I was told that my application had indeed been refused, but that the guy that phoned me is new and in-experienced. He simply should not have asked me that question.. The nice lady re-opened my application and passed it.

So the question is still the same, but the slant is slightly different. Anyone else had this experience?.. And if so, have you followed it up.

I just wonder if anyone else has been refused incorrectly.
