My son would like me to buy him an MP3 player like the iPod, Zen etc for his birthday. I do not know a great deal about these. Can somebody give me some advise please ,like which is a good buy; what to look for ; where to buy it from and from what media do you download music to it?

I guess the first question you want to ask is how much you want to spend on the player. Also how old is your son?
How much music does he want to put on the player? This is because they come in different sizes (in terms of memory). Generally the more memory the more expensive the player becomes. However the less the memory, the smaller the player is."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -

Hi
I think the IRiver H10 is a pretty good player. It has 5gb hard drive along with a whole lot of features.
Boots have it at present for £159. Howeve they are doing triple points until tomorrow and there is also a code for an extra 1000 points floating around. Top that off with a Rpoints, Greaspalm, etc cashback, you could save a fair whack.
However if you want to spend the full £200 I would suggest having a look at https://www.mp3players.co.uk. I bought my mp3 player off them. I emailed them about what I was looking for and they were very, very helpful. Also their prices were very competitive. You can also get cashback using Rpoints, etc with them."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
If you decide to go done the ipod route have a look at cd wow, their prices seen reasonable and if you look else where on this forum you may also find a discount code.

I would recommend a Creative Zen or the Zen micro. I am not disappointed with my Creative. And they are not as expensive as the iPOD.The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket. :rolleyes:0

Apple have the new 4th Gen 20gb Ipod with colour screen on their website for £209 with free delivery. They will even engrave two lines of text onto it free of charge so if it was for a birthday or something it can be personalised.
I picked up a 3rd gen recently from their refurb site (20gb) for £149 and I've found it a cracking bit of kit
Deffo the Ipod I'd sayWelcome, rogerramjet.

I sold my iPod 3rd Gen and have just sold my iPod 4th Gen. The iPod is good but still has its downfalls. You have to use 3rd party software (iTunes, which from my opinion as a software engineer is poor), the battery doesn't last as long as Apple state (usually around 5-8 hours you'll get on average) and it uses a hard drive (prone to breaking, you can't jog with it, uses of a lot of battery power).
I've just made the switch to static based MP3 players. 1gb of space is more than enough, I never fully used the 20gb and 40gb capacity of my iPods so saw it as a waste.
The Apple Shuffle is a good memory based mp3 player, although I'd recommend one of the Creative Muvo range. The Muvo TX FM or Muvo V200 are very good USB devices. No 3rd party software is needed, you just plug it in and copy your music across in Windows Explorer. It takes AAA batteries, and lasts for around 15-20hours. And finally it's very small and robust (doesn't suffer from the scrating the iPod does). My friend has the Muvo TX FM, and I'm in the process of about to buy a Muvo V200. From my month or so of research this is one of the best mp3 players around, and you can pick one up for around £100."Boonowa tweepi, ha, ha."0 -

Boots have very good offers on mp3 players at the moment, i got the creative micro zen before my holidays and with 5 gb it held enough to keep me and hubby listening, so when i got back i looked into boots with the triple points at the moment there is also 2000 bonus points with the zen and a nice code from the online code/voucher section would take £15 off and give you about 3900 points back making overall cost less points back to roughly £100 ish and also not forgetting rpoints too or the other cashback sites. The more i save the more i can spend:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:0
