Alternator suppliers?
My alternator has given up the ghost which eant I ended up coming home last night on a recovery truck
Does anybody have any recommendations as to suppliers of reconditioned units?
Car is a 1996 Lexus GS300 if that helps to narrow it down a bit. Many thanks.

Lucas (LSUK) (look under car electrics in yellow pages) would be my first phonecall, followed by a couple of independent motorfactors.
Also I would have the thing off the car, onto the kitchen table and look to see if it is just the brushes worn out, then look to source replacements, and fit them myself. Check and clean all cables relating to alternator & battery
You might also be able to do the check with the thing left on the car.

Thanks Wig, I'll have a look to see if the brushes are accessable without taking the whole thing off. Realistically the job's too big for me otherwise as there are a lot of belts and pulleys etc. in there!
New Toyota/Lexus alternator is coming in at about £275 so you can see why I'm trying a bit of "moneysaving" hereCan I help?0 -
as wig says, try and find a local place that does refurbished starters and alternators, you should get one from them for at very most £60,if you give them another £10 - £20 they might even fit it.
if you can get to the back of the alternator it may have an external regulator,9 times out of 10 it is this that is at fault, they cost about £10 at very most.
if you dont have a small local place try as wig says LSUK or a smal but national company called PROLEK. i use the glasgow branch regular, the guys there are great....work permit granted!0
