Just got home from work at 7 but havent gone to bed yet because my head is aching.. i work in a Tesco and they are piledriving through the floor overnight every weekend night for the next year in preperation for us to "extend up" to a second floor next year..
They are using a huuuugggee drill thing and it took them 6 hours to dig ONE hole in the floor last night about 2ft wide if that.. but the racket! Oh my! and then the dust its throwing up and the fumes that its giving out made all of us normal staff feel whoozy and cough... i have a dust allergy too so for me its even less fun!!
they are back tonight to drill another hole and weve been told to be prepared for the conditions to be even worse because they will be drilling from 4pm tonight not midnight like usual... and the store will be all shut up... and the extractor fan they HAD to set up tonight because it got so bad probably wont be in use :j (sarcastically of course)
So yeah... little rant over.. now i have to try and get rid of this headache and de-stress and get my head down so i can get some sleep before i have to be back in at 9 tonight!
(ah... feel a little better now i had a vent about it. hehe!)

Have a word with your manager, there must be some Health and Saftey implications here ? If you are being subjected to constant noise and dust you should be adequately protected from it, i.e ear defenders and dust masks should be provided. I would mention your dust allergy to your manager as well. Good Luck0

I agree that this seems to break Health and Safety rules. You must raise it with your manager. I am sure you can't be the only one who is suffering from it. It is your employer's duty to protect you from harm in the workplace and I think there is a very strong argument here that they are not doing so.0

Health and Safety all the way, they should be providing protection for employees working with this, which in my opinion would encompass goggles, masks, and ear defenders, and quite possibly an overall to protect your clothing!
Id call the manager and ask him what he is going to do about it. He might have to give you all a holiday if this work is going on, as they arent expecting customers to shop through that are they!!
