Our landlord has mentioned that we are eligible for grants covering the installation of central heating and double glazing.
Quite frankly I don't understand the scheme, so maybe someone could help me.
As I understand it the maximum amount available is £2,700 as we are in a gas supplied area. How on earth can central heating and double glazing be installed for that amount in a 2 bedroom terraced house - the landlord didn't mention he would cover the cost of anything above that?
Another concern of ours is that the landlord might bump up the rent if the property is improved - which will price us out.
It's not a cold house despite being unmodernised because of the heating from the houses either side, it doesn't cost us much to run.
I'm not sure what to do.

It sounds like the LL wants to get the house modernised on the cheap, especially since you haven't made a complaint about the house being cold.
I don't know how these schemes work but assume that he, as the LL, would not be entitled to apply for the grant and therefore needs you to do it for him. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

Thanks, the timing has me a bit suspicious seeing as these schemes seem to have been on the go for several years. I've just found a thread here on the forums the grant is "Warm Front" which has some mixed experiences.0
