not if it was sent standard 1st or 2nd class or recorded

the post office may have a record of it if it was sent by special

if it was a large item (bigger than a letterbox) or required a signature ask the buyer to check with their sorting office

Like pinkgem says there is no tracking or record kept at the recieiving post office for standard mail including recorded delivery. Unfortrunately that does mean you will need to refund your buyer without being able to do a successful claim for loss yourself from the Royal mail.

For future reference you do need to have a system or somehting to keep all your COPs and receipts for at least 6 months, or if you are trading 6 years in case the tax man audits your accounts.

Even with a proof of posting it is still a long drawn out process. I had purchased a small item on behalf of a friend that was faulty. I sent it back to the seller by recorded delivery. It never arrived back so I tried to claim from the Post Office. I sent the original print out for the ebay transaction showing what I had paid along with a printout of my paypal statement and a claim form. The Post Office took more than 1 month to even look at my claim and then wrote back saying they require proof of value which I cannot provide. They took so long to reply that I am now in India and unable to follow it up at the moment. All this trouble for approx £6 plus the postage cost!!!
