Help with Apple Braids

The first time I made it I made just one out of the mix and it was huge!
Now I make the dough mix but add 3 tsps mix spice and 2 big handfuls of sultanas and make into 8 iced fingers and the rest is made into balls and circled in a cake tin, one in the centre the rest around it. I then bake them and cover in icing. Yummy. My family wouldn't eat the apple version.
Another way I've used it is to leave out 1/2 the sugar and add 3 cloves of garlic chopped fine, 1 tbsp of ground coriander and 2 big handfuls of dried onions (32p box by whitworths). Fresh would probably work tho I might blitz in micro first.
Once the dough has come out of the breadmaker I divide into dough balls and make rings in 2 cakes tins. Let double in size and then brush with melted butter and bake as the braid.
We had this with a pasta dish and salad on Saturday night and the kids loved it.... so much so that the second ring didn't find its way to the freezer. They buttered it and had it for supper, the little monkeys. :rolleyes:MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Just water and icing sugar... you always seem to need more icing sugar than you think!"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Yeah go steady on the water kal. Someone whose mum owns a bakery came on the boards and said that you make it so that it's hard to turn the spoon. Literally a few drops, and then mix. You'll think it will never spread on but it does and will gradually work its way down the sides.
Now that took me a few tries to get right but now its a case of half a teasp at a time.
She said you should make it look a bit like fondant...but it will still drizzle when u leave it on.MAY GROCERY CHALLENGE £0/ £250

Sorry to butt in here, I haven't been on here much lately, and I don't know anything about the apple braid, I'll have a look for it later, but if this link works it might help anyone trying to make any bread by hand https://www.atomicshrimp.com/bread/Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0

Well, my first attempt has been a success!! Only minor gripe was that the braid sort of came apart on one but it still tasted good!!!
Thanks everyone0 -

Dough.
1 sachet yeast
15 oz strong bread flour
3/4 tsp salt
4 tbspn sugar (less if wanted)
4 1/2 tbspn butter
2 eggs
6 fl oz milk
I find this comes out a bit on the sticky side sometimes so you may need a bit of extra flour to hand *I make this up in my MR haven't tried it in the Panny yet!*
Set for white bread dough..
Filling.
2 eating apples
1 1/2 tsp plain flour
2 tbspn sugar
3/4 tspn cinammon
3/4 tspn lemon juice
3 tbspns sultanas
Peel, core and chop apples into small pieces toss with the remaining ingredients.
Roll out dough to 1/3 inch thick rectangle shape.Mark lightly from top to bottom into thirds without cutting!! On the outer thirds make diagonal cuts about 1 inch wide.
Place the filling down the centre of the dough then plait the dough over the top.
Cover loosely and rise for 30 mins then bake for approx 30 mins til golden brown.Gas mark 4/180 c/350 f
