fatheroftwo - a great selection of equity funds. Given you have 5k in UK all companies, 3k in OM Mid Cap might be a bit high. It has been a good performer for several years but a more general fund might be more appropriate to your risk profile - M&G UK Recovery, Jupiter UK Growth, Schroder UK Alpha?0

Thanks .
I did have a look at the above funds but again the manager history combined with consistent performance over the long term with a low exposure to the financial sector was my main pointers.
Any ideas what the volatility would be in the the last portfolio I published in comparison to the all share index.
I notice that many of the long standing posters such as dunstonh, edinvestor and others have not commented much on my amended portfolio.
Does this mean that they think the portfolio is basically OK and cant think of anything to say to to criticise it and Im on the right tracks ?0 -
I wouldn't be able to make any sensible comment about the volatility. To me your portfolio looks well balanced and cautious / medium risk with a really good range of funds - pretty much all are well known and in most preferred lists (there was one bond fund I wasn't familiar with).
It looks to me as if you have have done a huge amount of research.
I think that some like dunstonh and edinvestor may find it difficult to comment as IFA's and could get hauled over the coals for doing so.0 -

UK 51 PERCENT
EUROPE 27 PERCENT
NTH AMERICA 10 PERCENT
JAPAN 2 PERCENT
PACIFIC 3 PERCENT
OTHER EQUITY 7 PERCENT
LARGE CAP 56 PERCENT
MID CAP 33 PERCENT
SMALL CAP 11 PERCENT
Estimated Volatility 13.9 PERCENT
0.93 times as volatile as the FTSE ALLSHARE TRACKER
Out of curiosity I removed £5K Between a corporate bond and a high yield bond to maintain balance between the different type of bond funds and substituted it for £5k worth of BLACKROCK UK ABSOLUTE ALPHA A as an experiment in how it would effect the VOLATILITY and FTSE comparison.
This resulted in the VOLATILITY being reduced from 13.9 to 9.1 percent and the FTSE ALL SHARE INDEX REDUCED FROM 0.93 TO 0.89 PERCENT times the all share index
I would appreciate any opinion on how the risk allocation compares with what should be a cautious or Balanced RISK portfolio in the above or any comments if it sound OK or any alternative comments offered.
Thanks for bearing with me on this0 -

The Bestinvest portfolio planner tells you that underneath the 'ESTIMATED VOLATILITY' line. It should say something along the lines of 'This is xxx times as volatile as the Asset Allocation Model' (the model that you choose at the start of the portfolio planning process).
Also just FYI, the BlackRock UK Absolute Alpha fund is only available in P Class share type for retail investors - the A class is for institutional investors only.0 -

Yes Re the comparison to the comparison to the "asset allocation model" it has a question mark ( ? )so I presume I have deviated too far away from it to compare.
Re Blackrock will the difference in P class and A make a difference to the comparison made on the BESTINVEST SITE ?
Has anyone any comments re the portfolio ?
Does the initial portfolio (without blackrock) look like a medium risk/low risk portfolio ? or someone PLEASE tell me what it is ?
Does the volatility of 13.9 percent seem a bit high ?
What would be a low.....medium.....high risk volitility factor be...anyone got any ideas ?
thanks0 -
Please can someone advise how you get access to the Bestinvest portfolio planner - do you need to have investments with bestinvest? I would like to enter some possible funds that i am looking at and would like to check my risk profile. Thanks:whistle:0
