Credit card payment going through in £ instead of $

I have always funded my purchases, here and abroad, using a Nationwide cc, because, as we all know, Nationwide, do not levy a charge for making a foreign currency transaction.
I have just gone to pay for an item I won from ebay.com. I have an $18.75 dollar balance and the rest was to be charged to my credit card. However, I noticed, before I pushed the 'Pay Now' button, that the balance was going through as a sterling transaction, rather than a $ transaction.
Has there been a change, that I might be unaware of.
I have just found the answer to my question.
Underneath the payment details, there is a small button marked 'conversion options'. This gives you the choice, already clicked, of allowing Paypal to carry out the conversion for you, or you click on the payment going through in the currency requested and then the card company carrying out the conversion for you. Personally, I prefer Nationwide's conversion rates.
