The annoying thing is, he also says a meal isn't a meal if you don't have meat with it! I know he would eat sirloin or rump steak most nights if we could afford it.

I so I do find it frustrating sometimes, especially cutting every tiny bit of fat from the meat before I cook it, only for him to examine it before he eats it and manage to find some more fat!

Exactly the same in our house!
  • Well I told him that I had posted this thread and that the consensus was "like it or lump it" and he should eat what he is given.

So we were in tesco at the time and next thing I knew he had put a packet of pork escalopes in the trolley :D and said "there you go" haha

I was pleased but put them back... only because I had managed to find a free range chicken after weeks of looking and wanted to try it, be just my luck that if I bought the beef they wouldn't have any chickens next week. I couldn't stretch to both as the smallest chicken was nearly £6 and I was trying to spend no more than £10 on meat/fish and we already had stuff in the trolley.

But I was chuffed and I can now try something different next week, may slow cook a pork joint or something.

So Jay Dee, maybe tell yours he is ungrateful too and he may try it, lol!

Only bad point to the story is when I go shopping alone I spend £50, this week with him in tow, we spent £90 so I told him we are only buying bread, milk and fruit and veg next week, no more than £10, lol.

sazziecee - my OH sounds similar, he doesnt like cheese, tomato, pasta, pizza, rice, chilli, anything veggie like Quorn products. grrr ! Sometimes when I'm in the mood I'll make pizza but do his with things like ham on top & use a beaten eggs over the top instead of cheese. I know what its like we do tend to eat the same things week after week !!! I did find a nice recipe for shredded pork in a bbq & cola sauce (you need a slow cooker) - http://www.recipezaar.com/43186
What about going to your nearest butcher & asking for a small selection of things for him to try, its worth asking !
    Good luck !

I think the idea of enrolling him for a cookery course would be good as he'd get loads of ideas and would at least be tasting new things. At worst - he could take over food prep for a couple of nights each week which would relieve you, at best you'd have new things to try as well

Could have written that myself, apart from my partner will have sausages and if it's gammon there has to be no fat and must be grilled. He will only eat tinned tuna and cod so fish doesn't help either.

I have managed to sneak quorn pieces into chicken dishes like curry and spanish chicken without him noticing :D not all quorn about 1/3 quorn.

What I have done with my partner who also refuses to eat most veg aswell is got some cookery books and every week he must choose something I have never made before to try, we had moroccan lamb recently which me and DS2 loved but he twisted his face a little.

Oh another hit with him so far is mexican food, burritos, enchilladas, fajitas, tacos etc
One day I might be more organised...........
