So bored of chicken and beef

Hi!
My OH won't eat lamb or pork (except bacon and gammon) so we always eat beef and chicken but I am getting really bored of eating the same old things.
I tend to always make chilli, bolognese, stew/casserole and curries and stir fries.
He is also finicky about fat on meat so I have to buy the extra lean steak mince (which I don't mind doing but its more expensive) and won't eat anything with a bone in it, so even though I like chicken wings and drumsticks he won't touch them. Tried quorn and he hated it.
I am trying to watch my weight too so it's so hard to think of what to make for a change, and eating the same things means I am not really satisfied and end up snacking later on.
Any ideas please?
thanks
Sarah

Salmon steaks? or at the other end of the scale, what about doing a thick soup with nice bread and following it with a pud."Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Omlete, with anything he likes chucked in. Errrm Tuna pasta bake or ask him what he thinks he'd like to try. We have been stuck in a bit of a rut with always using chicken and beef too, so we've been trying different fishes and sea food.

For the first 10 yrs of marriage my dh wouldn't eat anything type of pasta, or shepherd's pie! Didn't stop me cooking them though - I'm not half as nice as you! Eventually he tried a tiny piece of pasta (he was starving at the time) and hey - he liked it. Then I made a rather special (if I say so myself!!) shepherd's pie, which my son loves, and he tried it and loved it. Turns out his mother was not a cook to say the least! What about something veggie for a change - something simple like baked pots with cheesy coleslaw, or a hm quiche and salad? Failing that, turkey escalopes or chicken breasts/boned thighs panfried then make a milk or halfmilk half stock sauce in the same pan with mushrooms, served with green veg and a baked potato would be pretty healthy. Meatballs made out of the mince instead of chili type stuff?0

Your OH sounds exactly like my husband!! He won't eat lamb or pork either and he'd rather throw away half the meat than have even a tiny bit of fat on it! I'll sometimes cook two meals just so I can have what I want to eat occasionally. I'll be watching this thread with interest!!0

The annoying thing is, he also says a meal isn't a meal if you don't have meat with it! I know he would eat sirloin or rump steak most nights if we could afford it.
I am not that keen on Salmon myself but will eat it, and I have made fish pie before which went down well.
We both do like fish but I always worry about cooking it wrong and ruining it. Think any more than twice a week though he would wonder where the "proper" meat was!
Got some frozen seabass fillets in the freezer for tonight and some cooked mackerel fillets in the fridge, I will see how that goes down.
I will eat most things myself, so I do find it frustrating sometimes, especially cutting every tiny bit of fat from the meat before I cook it, only for him to examine it before he eats it and manage to find some more fat!0 -
Why not sign your husband up for a cookery course? Or opt for a fortnight when he cooks his own meals? I bet after a while he'd be so hungry that some of the things he currently says he won't eat will be wolfed down. A lot of these food fads are prejudices developed and reinforced without the individual ever really giving them a reasonable trial. When I first got married my OH refused point blank to eat swede. Then one day I cooked it for myself in nice wedges, dressed it with butter and black pepper and he asked "Can I just try one piece?" He said it was delicious and he couldn't believe that swede really tasted like that. It turned out his mother had always mashed swede almost to extinction and he couldn't face it because it looked like vomit on his plate. Now it's one of his favourite vegetables so this just shows that food prejudices can be easily fuelled. Just serve his meals without the meat portion and maybe he'll soon be prepared to give them a try.0

Ditto Primrose. Clearly and calmly state that you are getting bored of the same things, so you are going to cook for you, and he can do what he wants (remember to give him a budget or he will be on the steaks!). Try a joint cookery course if you are uncertain about cooking fish as well - might give you both some ideas and confidence. Don't let him bully you!:p0

Quorn Chicken style - don't tell im what it is! The mince is tasteless but the chicken-style I thought was real chicken! Marinated tofu, or meatless frankfurters.0
