ok. i was under the impression that the money is actually earmarked for about 3 working days, even if they take the money on day 1 or 2.

that means if you have a credit limit of £750, a single £400 transaction would mean you cannot use your card to make any other purchases for the next 3 days, if they go in for the money before the earmark comes off again.

as i had paid off my card in full on the previous thursday,i did not expect to have funds available until tuesday/wednesday. that is why i asked the retailer how soon they would go in for the money, as i was prepared to delay my order for a few days.

don't you think they have some responsibility to have their staff (1) give accurate advice, or (2) admit they don't know (thus allowing me to err on the safe side)?

I think the responsibility lies with you in not making any transactions unless you have the available funds to cover them

ok, i guess everyone is agreed i am wrong. i guess that means i am - lesson learnt anyway!!
