Urgent Advice needed

We live in a council flat in a tower block, we have 3 boys, I am bidding on houses in the housing transfer list at the moment we have 165 points and the lowest points a house has gone to is 173. we get 1 point per month so it means i could have to wait another 8 months plus to even be considered unless I'm very lucky in the mean time.
Anyway...
We have a 3 bed house private rented to look at tonight, the landlord is looking for someone to move in straight away and is being very nice where deposits etc are required ie £200 deposit paid off weekly.

I would like to know if you think we are silly to give up our council flat to go private rented.

Thanks in advance for all your help.

    Yes.

Council flat is yours for as long as you want; private rental might end in 6 months and you can't find another. Have some patience.

The house might knock some points off you and you might lose your slot/points forever.

short answer YES you get no security at all plus there are many costs involved once you get on the private lettings merry go round! ...I know it's probably hard but I'd wait.

In the 8 months that you accumulate the 8 points, don't forget that everyone on the list above you will no doubt get an extra 8 points too...

Unless your tower block flat only has 1 bedroom, then I don't see what the problem is? You should appreciate the fact that you have a secure property that no one is going to kick you out of. Ok, it may be a bit small, but that's a small price to pay for security, especially as all your kids are the same sex.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
  • Just a small point to consider - can you get any points on Medical grounds for any of the family? As this can boost your points quota - eg any disability. I only ask - as years ago when with my ex hubby - we were given extra points - every little helps - otherwise I'd hang in there. 8th months will be gone before you know it.

    Good luck

Disgraceful thread , you dont EARN a council house , you get it as a help me out from the council , if you can afford to rent privatley why dont you ?

There could be , and most likely is , a familly with 3 boys that CANT afford to private rent waiting for a place like yours...
