Steam specials departing from Luton and Bedford stations promise all the fun and nostalgia of the golden days of rail travel this spring and we have a pair of Premier Dining tickets for the lucky winners of our competition.

The Cheshireman which departs on Saturday, March 1, and The Yorkshireman leaving on Saturday, March 22, are being run by heritage rail operator The Railway Touring Company.

Passengers will have the pleasure of travelling from Luton or Bedford in the 'Royal Scot' refurbished vintage rail carriages and from Leicester onwards The Cheshireman will be hauled by the magnificent steam locomotive 71000 Duke of Gloucester and The Yorkshireman by LMS Pacific 6229 Duchess of Sutherland.

The prize Premier Dining tickets are earmarked for travel on The Yorkshireman on Easter Saturday, March 22.

Worth £169 per person these tickets include full English breakfast, light lunch and a four-course dinner silver served at your seat.

Saturday, March 1:
The Cheshireman

This day excursion to the historic city of Chester departs from Luton at 7.32am and Bedford at 7.55am arriving at Chester at 12.30pm with the afternoon to explore this walled city with its castle, cathedral and historic houses.

Along the way the train passes over the magnificent Harringworth Viaduct and through beautiful English countryside.

Saturday, March 22:
The Yorkshireman

The Yorkshireman heads to York departing from Luton at 7.32am and Bedford at 7.55am arriving in the historic city at 12.37pm with the afternoon to explore York's Minister, the Shambles, Jorvik Viking Centre or the National Railway Museum.

Again this journey takes passengers across the Harringworth Viaduct - the longest rail viaduct in England - with its superb views over the Welland Valley.

■ Tickets for both day excursions range from Standard Adult at £74 (Standard Junior £41) to Premier Adult at £169 (Family tickets available from £220 to £495). Premier tickets include full English breakfast, light lunch and a four course dinner aboard. There will be a buffet car on board.
