Hello
Not sure if this is in the right place, but was wondering where sells the cheapest Free Range Chicken?
We tend to use quite alot of Chicken Breast Fillets and since going Free Range (Thanks to Hugh) have found the prices vary alot from different supermarkets, and thats when its available, the shelves are usually empty of the FR Chickens.
Has anyone found a particular Supermarket cheaper or do you think I should try a local butcher or farmers market?
Thanks

Aldi certanly don't. I checked my local one and the only ones available are the Frankenstein variety.
Anybody know about Lidl? I would suspect that they don't, as they are very similar to Aldi.Live better on less :beer:0 -
I tried to get free range yesterday. Lidl don't sell them (or at least the one I tried didn't). I gave up after ASDA, Tesco and Sainsburys didn't have any. My neighbour tells me that if you go first thing on Sunday morningyou can usually get them then! So for the first time for year I will be serving non free range to guests this weekend - I am doing three curries and couldn't think of an alternative to the butter chicken.0

I use the farmers market where they have photos of the chickens (and pigs) in their living conditions and just paid £6.50 for a medium sized chicken
I have never seen free range chicken at Lidl either - although they do have MSC certified frozen fish“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Yeah - I'm also doing a chickpea dish and a spinach and potato dish. I have a recipe for a butter chicken dish and as I have a dinner party and time off this is the first chance I have had to try it.
I would have much preferred to us free range (and have been doing for years) but I just have not been able to get it. It is a major problem and hopefully the supermarkets will enter into contracts to buy more thus giving farmers the stability to produce it. With other meats it is a lot easier as the local butchers give you full details of the farm etc but chicken at the butchers has always been mass produced.
