I've had to do this once as well. It seems their software can't cope with positive balances. After all, it's not what credit cards were designed for is it?

Talking of transferring credit balances from Egg you may be interested to read this in an Egg Cashback thread at http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=714528&postcount=7

Basically I did a SBT on Egg's website to my Bank Account. The request wasn't actioned so I called customer service and the very nice girl I spoke to said she would transfer it and did I put the account in credit in error by making an overpayment. I humbly said yes and that was that. My statement shows that I got cashback for her transffering it. It stated REFUND REQUESTED - GB rather than BALANCE TRANSFER - GB.

It might be worth calling up Egg CS and saying it was an overpayment and could it be refunded.
