First Direct e-savings pay 5.2% according to https://www.moneyfacts.co.uk

The e-savings market is being stuffed by Portman (5.55%) and Chelsea BS (5.4%) notice accounts which carry six month bonuses on the full variable rate. It's a hassle to remember to send in the 90 day notice, though - so possibly only worth it for larger sums?

Portman's is a branch only account (and I expect it to be open for a limited time) but Chelsea's can be opened by post.

Call Portman for an information pack on 0845 045 0115 or visit https://www.portman.co.uk

    For Chelsea, ring 0800 169 1076 or see https://www.thechelsea.co.uk

I have just opened an account with ICICI Bank who are offering 5.4%AER. They are an Indian bank but all appears okay and they a registered with the FSA etc. They have taken a bit of time to activate my account but when I rang them they were very obliging and apologetic. I even got a reply to an email in 2 days!! The account operates in the same way as ING with a linked current account. You apply online and get a confirmation in 2 days, but they took 10 days to bank my opening deposit cheque and I'm still waiting (14 days since the cheque payment showed up in my current account) for my PIN which I am promised is in the post. I suspect they must be quite busy as this is new and their rate looks good.

The link you want is http://www.icicibank.co.uk/personal-banking/savings-account.html

Added bonus of a link card, so don't have to wait 3/4 days for a BACS transfer on amounts up to £350 or so. Can be opened with just £1.

Bradford and bingly pay 5.1%, internet banking, no silly little rules like the ING account and a hell of a lot more reliable than ICICI's account! You can choose yearly or monthly interest. Seems like the clear choice to me.
