honeymoon??? ideas - cheap but nice

Hello

Right, I am going for tips on a cheap honeymoon> i will brouse through the many post of advice on cheap weddings rather than start a post. But for honeymoons i dont think there is one.

I really want a honeymoon a chance to get away after we are married. I have waited 10 years for this, 5/6 years of engagement! and a honeymoon is much needed - we have two kids and want TIME ALONE espeically after wedding.

I hate planes and have to take diazpans to stop the panick attacks from coming - well that was last time! no doubt i will need it again.
But I want a lovely white sanded beach crystal blue waters but not far away? if thats possible

any ideas? i have been looking at tunisia, no-one I know has been there, and there is a little island called Jerba just off tunisia - i like the idea an island lol sounds romantic
anyone been - is there really white sands or is there anywhere else which sounds just as nice.

also booking: we want to get everything booked now - he cant back out now!!!!!! lol. is there a better time to book?
oh and my wedding is end July next year - so it will be peak time too?

sorry for the essay - any help is appreciated!
Thanks Liz

Have you thought about having some therapy specifically for your phobia? Lots of people have these workshop therapies and it cures them or at least reduced thier anxiety.

I can think of loads of tropical paradises but they are all involving a plane...I would recommend Los Roques in Venezuela, Belize, Mexico, Cuba....

They do these courses at manchester airport IIRC....
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • You can't guarantee the weather but the north-western Highlands and islands have amazing white beaches and clear water. Plus you wouldn't need to fly.

You can get really lucky with warm weather there but it's not as sure a bet as somewhere like Mexico.
Got married 23rd May 2009, many thanks to all on the Weddings and Anniversaries board for their help and support!
  • I will get on the plane!!!!! i thought a few diazpans will cure it again. I am not going to miss out. I went to try to sort out something to fly with, they wanted me to have some counselling to try sort out my panick attacks but becuase i left it till last minute they gave me diazpans. i dont fancy having counselling.

I dont want to travel more than 4 hours becuase with only going one week its wasting a day travelling. someone suggested croatia as they thought tunisia is not a nice place? there are some bad reviews on holidayuncovered but thats mostly about hotels people have stayde in.
i have plently of time to book, just need to know the best time to do it.

    Thanks for the replys
    Thank you

Well we're going to Egypt for ours... just a week due to work restraints sadly but hohum. We're going through Cosmos (Tesco clubcard vouchers!) So hoping our Honeymoon will cost about £500 after using our Tesco club card vouchers :)

  • My freidns keep asking me where we are going for my Hen Night.. they all think we should have a few days away.

They don't seem to understand that the £300/£400 it costs for a few days away, I would rather spend it on my honeymoon!! If me and the Mr both spent £350 each, that is £700 we can't spend on the honeymoon!!

Me? I can't a cheesy night out on the town with cocktails and pizza at the end of it!

Anyway, I digress LOL. My inlaws have offered to pay for our honeymoon as our wedding pressie, but they don't have a lot of money and I think they were planning on funding a weeks self catering on one of the spanish islands. We want to go to Cancun as it will cost approx 2k for a week to ten days all inclusive, and this is the big one - we plan to have small people after that!

I feel like i'm stuck between a rock and a hards place - do we offend them and turn them down, or change our plans?

Or can I get Cancun for a lot cheaper?

Sorry - i realise this has absolutley nothing to do iwth the point of the thread, but reading it has made the brainjuices start thinking!

Why don't you explain your plans to them and see if they will make a contribution? Have a check how much they would have been spending first though so you have an idea of a figure so they won't offer more than they would have done. Unless they want to that is.

Am sure that the thought of grandchildren will have them jumping for joy :D
Officially a non-smoker but still rounder than recommended :p
  • My friend has been to Ischia - an island off the coast of Italy. She said it was magical!!! Not too far on the plane either....
P.S. I havd tried TFT, NLP and other forms of counselling etc but the only thing that works for me is diazepam.

I've been to Tunisia 3 times now, never been to Djerba so I can't comment on that part but I've been to Sousse and Hammamet and Port el Kantoui.

As far as I can tell it's a bit like marmite, people either love it and go back again and again... or they hate it lol. It all depends on what type of holiday you're used to. It's not the sort of place you can go and party all night but it has some great culture and lovely rstaurants and everything is really cheap. It's a good place to go and haggle over things and chat with random strangers, some people feel that this is hassle but again it's all about your attitude and what you expect...

I certainly wouldn't mind going for my honeymoon but OH really wants to go to Rome and I suppose it would be good to try somewhere different!
A very proud Mummy to 3 beautiful girls... I do pity my husband though, he's the one to suffer the hormones...
Krystal is so smart and funny and wonderful I am struck dumb in awe in her presence.

  • If you don't want to fly anywhere, why not going on a cruise?

I was going to suggest a cruise as well.

Not a fan of Tunisia, I stayed in Hammamet. The local men were extremely creepy as soon as they saw a white woman. I hope that didn't sound racist, I just meant that they behaved completely differently towards women with pale skin there. I was in a couple as well, but put me right off going back there.
