Thanks, I shall start applying online.

Don't apply for them all at once - otherwise you could actually damage your credit rating.

While ShelfStacker has listed spme cards you could try, its probably actually a good idea to try your own bank first for one of their credit cards.. before you try other companies.

  • Have you spoken to your bank to upgrade your account? Applied for one of their cards? Bank of mum and dad?

Depends which bank, remember. I had a Barclays account for about a year and was turned down for a Barclaycard Initial for... some reason or other. All a little confusing, really. ;)

Also, don't apply for too many cards. Apply for MAYBE your bank's card (and as it's your first time with a CC, it could be unlikely you'll be accepted) and then the Capital One, and if that's refused (they usually give instant or 7 day decisions; mine was instant) either hold off for a month before doing any more applications or get a prepay card.

The reason I say this is that essentially, as I found to my cost, the "throw it against the wall and see what sticks" approach to getting credit !!!!!!s your credit score good and proper. Not doing that again... and neither should you... ;)

Hold off driving. Its too expensive.

You realise you have to pay off credit card debts? Theres no point getting into the debt unless you can get yourself out and if you are starting college, and a parent, you will not have money to do this.

    Don't do it.

I wouldn't worry about "don't do it!", as a single parent, 19 and at the college I don't think there is a chance..

You don't NEED any of those things, you need to live within your means.

Have a look at freecycle for things for your house. It's good enough for the beginnings.

Congratulation on starting college. Very very important thing to do.
  • if you dont really want to apply for one..then u can get an add on card on your name if any of your family members are using a credit card..that is the best option and it will not take much time also for your card to come to you..

I would advise you to do driving as your a mum and you dont want to rely on a bus to take your son to nursery, i agree with that. Maybe the councel can help? but try to get a card from your bank allready. Make sure you pay bits off and make sure you think "can i afford to pay this back?"

The post you're quoting was from over a year ago so she's probably sorted now.
