Mileage related car insurance.
We have two vehicles and although we use both throughout the year, we use one more in the summer and one more in the winter.
We have insurance on the 'winter' car for 'no more than 10000 miles' Last year we did under 10k. This year we fully expect to do under 10k. However, as it is a winter car, we have already knocked up 5000 miles in 5 months so we appear to be 'over target' even though it will all come out in the wash.
Today, a thought crossed my mind. How do insurance companies look on this situation if you have an accident part way through the year? (I can prove last year was under 10k but obviously can't prove this year until it happens)
Any advice would be much appreciated.

In the event of an accident, they may check against previous MOT certificates. Obviously, if the MOT was carried out after the insurance started, and the car has covered over 10k miles, they will know it has exceeded the limit.
One of our cars does over 30k miles a year so we insure it with Quinn Direct who don't ask how many miles you do so its unlimited. If you found my comment helpful, please click the 'Thanks' button below :T0 -
If you have only done 5000, that means you have 5000 left to run, so if you had an accident now you would be within the 10,000 and you would be ok.
Mileages are by their very nature difficult to accurately predict, there will be some allowable overrun before the insurer gets shirty. Also IMO I'd say the most they could do would be to add a bit of extra premium to cover the excess miles. Unless the extra miles were grossly out say 25,000 instead of 10,000. Then I'm not sure what action they could or would take.0 -
In the years we have owned the 'summer car' all previous paperwork - annual MOTs etc all fall under 10k for the winter car. I have no problem in proving that.0

i was amazed at how much of a price differance there is when you jiggle your mileage about,i used to generously guess my mileage now im checking against last years,i went from 10k miles to 7k miles and saved over £100 on the mileage differance of only 3k miles....work permit granted!0
