Blocked toilet help!!

Hello,
I have a blocked toilet and has been for couple of weeks now, i can't afford a plumber...
Well it still lets enough through its just a bit slow at draining really but it is definately blocked as the water is always a slight brown, i just bought one of those plumber rods maybe 5-6m long and fed it right down, now the toilet water turns very brown so there is obvioulsy a lot of blockage there but after ages trying to free it all up it is still blocked. I have tried a plunger for about 30 mins as well.
Each time i do the rod or plunger i get a lot of debris(human) coming up in the pan, i then flush, it drains a bit slow and the water colour is not too bad just a slight brown, but i could do this all night but it never reaches a final clearance!
The blockage must be right down the pipe ... its not the best situation continaully leaving the blockage like this as it will just get more and more blocked even though it seems to be not getting worse....
Its a bit bizzarre as i thought it would either clear with the rod, or start overflowing the toilet after flushing, but seems to have reached an equilibrium!
Any ideas..?

Hi, I do feel for you as its really horrible, my OH swears by using an old mop, he just keeps plunging the mop in the toilet, like a plunger, it does work, although you might have to do it for a while. I bought one of those metal wire things, that you have to put down the loo pan,it reaches right down to the drain. it cost about £15 but has worked. Have you taken the manhole cover up and had a look yet? It could be blocked down there. Another thing that does work, is putting alot of really hot water into the toilet pan, that gives abit more pressure on the blockage and forces it to move, in theory although you have to make sure that its not going to overflow onto the floor. Washing soda can also help if left overnight in the pan, that might disolve the blockage. I can't think of anything else apart from the chemical unblockers, like Mr Muscles. Good luck, i am sure someone else will come along with a really good idea.20p savers club

Hiya
My OH is a plumber and says that the mop idea above is your best bet but to do the *plunging* whilst you flush the toilet as this will create a vacuum and hopefully suck the blockage out.
However, if the blockage is in the pipes and not the loo then you will need to check the manhole.

hmmmm thanks for that, but it must be a bit worse than i think, as i already did the mop thing for ages, maybe 45min - 1hour, there was a good vacuum and a lot of waste was coming into the pan but i never got that final clearance.....
Also i am in a block of old (red brick)tenamant flats(1st floor) so no manhole that i know about .....
Basically what is the most extreme thing that would have to be done...?
cheers!0 -
Hi is your flat run by the council or is it privately owned or rented. Sorry about all the nosey ness. If its rented from the council, get them to clear the blockage, if its privatley ( Can't spell ) rented, report it to the landlord. If the flat's your own, well then i can't think of any answer apart from getting a plumber. Sorry.20p savers club

Hiya ~ the most extreem would be dynorod!!
Oh is saying that the blockage could be caused from flats above and depending on how far up the soil stack the blockage is would determine if they had problems too.
Is it a shared drain?:heartpuls baby no3 due 16th November :heartpulsTEAM YELLOWDFD 16/6/10"Shut your gob! Or I'll come round your houses and stamp on all your toys" The ONE, the ONLY, the LEGENDARY Gene Hunt :heart2:0 -
You could ask other residents if they have a problem, could be the soil pipe is blocked? Do you have a management scheme for the tenement where you are paying annual fee to a factor to have problems in the building fixed?0
-
I don't know about a shared drain and no managment sheme, also it my responsibilty to fix any blocked drain (in my lease)..............
I cant really see any other thing to do apart to get a plumber, will just need to shop around for a good price!
I mean i am supirsed that i would have blocked it so maybe it is someone upstairs that has done it.....
Just over the road from this block there is a massive development site, they have just done the drainage and are working away on the founds, but i doubt they have been messing with our pipes, never know though......
thanks for the help.0 -
When ours done that, dh went down to where the sewage works are and asked one off the drivers with the lorry collecter to do our manhole for cash, tenner i belived it cost not alot anyway. He came up in his lorry and flushed the drain through.. My dh is a haulage driver but didnt know the chap. Took five mins and all was cleared. May be worth trying that first before calling a plumber.0
