You can see Bandit on the rescue pages here
He looks a bit grizzled but we wanted an older dog and didn't like the idea that he might be left unchosen for months because he was older and black (apparently black greyhounds are really hard to home!). I was really keen not to be swayed by looks and to go with temperament but every single dog was lovely - I wish I had the space for them all
I'm still waiting for the confirmation that we can pick him up on the weekend but we were verbally told anytime

he's beautiful. I like black greyhounds. Yes it's true that so many black one gets overlooked
Don't stress too much about the socialising or else Bandit will pick up on your stress and become stressed himself! Keep him muzzled and and on a lead initially and let them sniff each other out. Once Bandit is used to the other dogs, I cant see any reason why you cant walk out with your friends. My grey wasn't very good with small dogs when I first got her and my friend has a very small dog and now Cody loves herUnsocialised greys just need to learn that there are other breeds of dogs out there. Once he's met and sniffed a few, he'll be fine. Just remain calm and reward his good behaviour. For example you could give him a treat for just being "nice" around other dogs. I used to do this. Cody used to bark at other breeds, simply because she had never seen any others.
My grey has come on in leaps and bounds and she goes off lead most of the time and her recall is very good. Of course squirrals and cats are still very appealing to her so I still need to be careful but no dog is perfect
Oh you can change his name if you wish. It's the sound of your voice they associate to, not the name itself but start this straight away. I started to use Cody's name as soon as I picked her up.0 -
Thanks everyone - some great ideas here
and it looks like his new name might be Benji (although Benji the greyhound
)
I've just had the official confirmation that I can pick him up on Sunday morning so will be heading out then. It's a two hour drive home for Benji so will he need any water? We have a hatchback so he'll be going in the back but at the moment I have no restraint - any suggestions? I've seen the little dog seatbelts but they only seem to be for the dog if he is actually sitting in the back seat. I plan to put an old duvet down in the back for his comfort - thanks to freecycle I have a ton of them now :T. Anything else I need to consider?
Oh dog tags - must get that sorted on Saturday :cool:
Sorry for all the questions :-)

We have seatbelts for our two that sit on the back seat. My third greyhound goes in the back and we have something like this to stop him from climbing into the main part of the car, and also to stop him flying forward should we ever be in a crash.
