Check the DVLA status on the tax disc (it won't have one but it might still be taxed you would be done for failing to display IF you got caught) you don't have to worry about ANPR if it is showing as taxed (IMHO)

Or if you live near the auction, you could print off a certificate from the internet (read the thread) and get a tax disc that way. If you didn't want to keep that insurance policy which allows you to do that you can cancel within 14days some insureres have no charge for early cancellation others like Swiftcover have a £50 charge or whatever. Research is the key.

Also you should be checking the auctionhouse (phone up) a couple of days before the sale if it has an MOT or not. If you have access to auctionview it might say on there, if not phone them and ask them.

Best way is to use the auction house's delivery service. IIRC it costs around £60 to have it delivered on the back of a transporter. It just might take a few days. In the meantime you can sort out tax and insurance.

Last time I asked about that (4 years ago ish) they quoted me £150, I drove it home the same night.

If it has an mot drive it home even with no tax BUT then tax it straight away not waiting till the end of month

if no MOT then arrange an mot at your local garage and drive it there,or if your naughty drive it home and if stopped say you are taking it for the mot

  • You can only drive the car to an MOT at the testing station.
You cannot drive it for any other reason.

No tax disc displayed is an offence, regardless of tax status, unless parked on private property.

Legally you can't. You'd need to get it insured, book it in for an MOT then take it to the MOT centre. If it fails, you can then drive it home.

Beware that Plod are aware this goes on and have a tendency to wait near auctions from time to time to catch people out driving their new vehicle home.

    read my post carefully,

no tax is an HMRCE offence, they very rarely persue if the tax is done straight away and I did say drive it TO the mot station

agree with Conor plod do wait near auctions but again as long as it is mot'd and insured they report you to HMRCE for no tax, again when they check and see it has been taxed at the very earliest time poss they normally do not bother persuing you,
I have done this many times
