Halifax Rip-off - "Technically overdrawn".

On Monday I paid a cheque to the value £1,1750 into my "Halifax Extras" current account. The same day I wrote a cheque for £14.00. which, it would appear, was paid into the recipient's bank the same day. This morning, I received a letter stating that my cheque for £14.00 had taken me over my overdraft limit and I had been charged £30.00 for an "unauthorised" overdraft. When I 'phoned them for an explanation I was told that whilst my statement showeed that I was within my limit, I was "Technically overdrawn" as the £1,1750 did not clear until the following day.
So, a £30 charge for £14 for one day!
What makes it even worse is that I have, (but not for much longer!) over £10,000 on deposit with them.
Are ther ANY banks thatdon't rip-off their customers?

Sorry, but you wrote a cheque when you clearly did not have the funds available. Why did you not wait until the funds had cleared? People think that when a cheque is written it will take 3 or 4 days to come out of the account when it can come out as soon as the next day after the payee has payed it in. You will have recieved a set of terms and conditions that state a charge will apply if this happens. Why do you not set up an overdraft for things like this? I think you will find that most banks do this as standard practice. If this is your first offence you may be able to get it waived.0 -
