Hi,
I am making a sauce for chicken and the receipe says use sherry. I can't afford to buy a bottle of sherry for just 3 tbsp worth. What do you think I could use as a substitute?
The sauce is going over battered chicken, red peppers and rice?

The sherry is a substitute for rice wine.
If you are going to do more chinese cooking invest in a small bottle of rice wine.
You can often get around christmas time a sherry glass and a miniature as a gift set available at the local off licence .......or go to your local and buy a glass of sherry and take it home to use !!!!!!!!!0 -
The really good thing with Chinese rice wine is that you are NEVER tempted to drink it ... and yet it is so useful for cooking.Mortgage started on 22.5.09 : £129,600Overpayments to date: £3000June grocery challenge: 400/6000

How about a miniature bottle? I use these for Xmas cakes - however, if you want to cook chinese style food often, a bottle of dry sherry won't go amiss0
