There is either a filter in your mail application filtering out that address (or unknown "hotmail.co.uk / .com addresses), or you need to add your new address as a contact or to the safe senders list.
  • Firstly, I would not have chosen a hotmail account as they are primitive when compared to gmail. I have both and am in the process of retiring my hotmail as merely a spam address and for my instant messaging MSN account.

I would highly recommend the following:

    1) Sign up with gmail and enable the IMAP settings on the account settings page.

    2) Download Mozilla Thunderbird and install.

    3) Download and install the webmail extension from http://webmail.mozdev.org/

    4) Add your AOL account to Thunderbird following the guides online. All of your emails from your AOL account should now start to download into thunderbird.

    5) Add your gmail account to thunderbird as an IMAP account.

    6) Both accounts should now be added to thunderbird. Simply highlight all of the emails in the AOL account in thunderbird and "drag and drop" them into your gmail account. A simple CTRL+A should highlight them all. After a while (time depends on how many emails you have in your AOL account), all of your emails from AOL should now be inside your gmail account. Obviously, you can drag and drop selections of emails at a time if you wish to avoid copying over spam/useless emails across, but gmail has very good filters and spam algorithms to help with this later on - so choose what's best for you.

    7) All of the emails should now be easily accessible and able to be filtered, tagged, etc. More importantly, all of your emails will have their time-stamps preserved (i.e., the emails won't have the date they were forwarded as the date they were received; they will have the original date they were sent instead) and the subject titles won't contain "FWD: Subject".

    8) If you don't like using an email client, simply uninstall Thunderbird and forward your new email address to your contacts for future use. You can then access all of your old emails from your new gmail account with any web-connected computer.
