After finishing a year's contract on a flat, the (rude and useless) letting agents wanted to take money from our deposit. Despite having a DVD with video and photographic evidence on it (taken before and after), they were willing to go to court!
So we were faced with three choices, give in, go to court (taking time, effort and stress) or... get our own back MoneySavers style! :T
We decided to set up a website so people can review estate and letting agents - it lets you enter their details, and reviews of them, and search for estate agents before entering into contracts. So you can save money by finding the cheaper and honest ones.
And it gets better! We did it on a shoe-string, using all the money-saving tips from here... from raising funds by opening bank accounts, to using the Google voucher tip, to shopping around tips the list goes on and on.
The set up cost was £30 (this pays for the server hosting it and for the name etc...), but using the tips it's been about free. It will cost about £60 a year to run, but we've put adverts on the site and hopefully this will pay for some of it - any profit will be ploughed back in to update the postcode database (which I created by hand - errkk!) with an official one.
So if you have an axe to grind, or would like to commend a estate or letting agent for their service, please give it a go, and let me know (on here or by email if you have any suggestions, problems, or owt like that. And please tell your mates - word of mouth advertising is free!
The address is Estate-Agent-Reviews.co.uk. We hope you like it.
PS. Thanks Martin and all you money savers out there for the tips, we hope with this we're giving something back!

Great idea - I've been experiencinga lot of probs with my letting agent too - and was appalled when I heard he was not regulated by ARLA and I had no recourse. This is great for letting me get some form of revenge. Good job.0

I wish you success with your new venture and I'm glad to see that there are still some entrepreneurs out there.0

By any chance were the agents you dealt with belonging to a large upmarket London chain famous for its mini's and once convicted for stealing other agents boards ?
If so...I had a very similar experience with them...
