I think it's time to move this thread - it's no longer a grabbit

Follow up posts to grab it offers should be placed in the new sub forum It's Dead - and it was'nt any good . No follow up discussions should be started on the grab it forum.
  • Yes its true that Toshiba are dropping Hd so the only hi def option will be blu ray ..BUT HD players will upscale your normal dvd to near hd quality ..blu ray can not do this so you can still grab a great bargain and pick up a good hi def collection on ebay with all the panic selling that will go on .Normal dvd still have a good 80-90% share of the market and i got to be honest i use my Xbox add on to upscale normal dvd and the results are stunning , good chance to grab a bargain .

The cheap one is not 1080p, so the comparison is with the £42 one.

With this one you get £30 worth of recent films in true HD, ( the true bargain was the fact that you originally got SEVEN dvds for free).
Even so so for the £8 difference you are getting a quality manufactured, highly rated reviews etc that also plays soon to be drastically discounted HD directly.

This post was to point out to those who had bought the original offer from Amazon, with 7 dvds, that they could get a £40 refund as the price has dropped.

no comparison really, a cheap upscaler :rotfl: or a true 1080p toshiba ;)

i've had a few cheap dvd players and it's true - you get what you pay for!
  • This machine plays normal DVD's far clearer than normal players worth every penny on this fact alone even though we will soon not be able to buy HD discs! got my seven discs and a no questions refund of £42.00 today from Amazon. Im sure these will drop even more so watch out for a great machine at a bargain price well worth it just for normal DVD playback...
New Comper in 2008 wins zero  ho hum.....

Also in 6 months or so when HD has died of death there are going to be lots of cheap HD films for sale!!

As herby said this plays normal DVD's so i you're looking for a new standard DVD player I'd buy this

Well, this still looks like quite a bargain. Remember it doesnt just play DVD's it upscales them (to 1080p if you wish!). This means you'll get the best possible quality from your DVD's. I usy my Xbox 360 to upscale DVDs and the quality is hard to distinguish from HD when you sat on the sofa, particularly with animated films. I've not had the chance to test any cheap uscaling DVD players but i'd imagine the upscaler in this unit would be much better. Now also consider how long it took for DVD to take the majority share of the market, I dont know the actual figures but neither Blu-Ray nor HD Dvd have a very big share of the home film market in the UK (probably less than 10% combined) so DVD is gonna be around for a while yet (and they are now very cheap to buy too) so seems like no better time to get yourself a decent DVD player.
Add into the mix that it comes with 2 true HD films and the ability to play any of the 150+ titles available, seems like a great deal
