Silent Calls

This morning I received a silent call from Response Handling Ltd on my home phone. I had registered with the Telephone Preference Service over a year ago. After checking my registration, I complained to the TPS. I received an e-mail response (from a no-reply address) which I guess was a stock reply. Whilst this referred me to "Silent Callguard" (www.silentguard.co.uk - thanks to Just Say No to 0870 for the 0800 number - 0831138) where I have now registered (only one year allowed at a time), the e-mail referred to my call being the result of power/predictive dialling equipment using an incorrect dialling rate that did not match operator (sales person) availability.

What TPS did not address is that if I am a long standing registrant with TPS, then why did RHL call me? I was presumably on the call list for operators. Has anyone else any experience, and can I take this any further to ensure that TPS actually fulfils its purpose?

  • Have you changed your CPS provider since registering with TPS? In my experience the change results in cold calls starting up again.

You lost me there. A CPS provider carries your outgoing calls. Incoming calls still arrive via BT.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
