Buying Land In France?

I'm thinking of Buying some building land in France with planning permission granted.

I won't want to actually build on it for about 8-10 years,

does anyone know the legalities of this?

would the planning permission still stand then?

Would i have to re apply? and could it be refused?

If i put foundations in would this keep the planning permission valid for when i want to finish the building 8-10 years from now?

    I'm not entirely sure about this but I believe that PP lapses after a certain time (I seem to recall that a time-scale is part of the original permis) but it is a few years, certainly.

    Whether it would last for 10 years is doubtful but it could be re-instated quite easily if you were to buddy up to the local mayor. If it's in one of the places with a mayor who doesn't take kindly to foreigners then you could find yourself on a hiding to nothing. A guy I know ended up in deep doo-doo because the local cops took an interest in his building works (yeah, you're right - it has nothing to do with them but if you get on their wrong side....) and decided that the renovations he was carrying were illegal because, in their view, he would not get PP if the 300-year old house were to be proposed now, due to the "dangerous location". He eventually had to pretty much abandon the whole thing. I would stress this is an extreme example but these things can happen if one oversteps some invisible line.
