Broker or Comparison

hi, i have been thinking of getting my Car Insurance though a Broker or a comparison site.,,just a couple of questions and a poll if anyone can give me some answers.

1)as anyone ordered through a broker before and how do they compare against comparison sites ,,is it cheaper?

2)i have never ordered through a comparison site but i have heard that when people have ordered the price changes and get more expensive once the initial price as been given,,,as anyone experianced this?

what would you suggest, broker or comparison?

  • Hi, I would suggest a comparison site as you can see what the prices are; with a broker they usually just give you one price which they say is the cheapest, but you have no means of verifying this. My experience was that the last site quoted in the article, "!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" gave a 100% accurate price when going to the insurer's website; some such as MSP and comparethe market use assumptions and produce an indicative price which turned out to be cheaper than the insurer was offering.
    Hope this helps!

Try all avenues, brokers are good especially if they are local as you can go in and talk to them, rather than phone or e-mail. Some comparison sites initially only ask basic questions, probably to give a good initial price, when you get deeper into the quote they may need more info which may raise or lower the final quote.

It really is a matter of entering all your needs into on-line forms or on the phone or popping into various brokers and taking it from there. it can be tiresome but rewarding too, I got protected, fully comp, £200 excess on a 2L Rover, including full Green Flag and legal cover for £75 this year.

As notsofresh says, you can tinker with your quote on-line to see the best price, I add/remove my wife, some companies make this cheaper some more expensive, play with excesses, mileages and other variables and can see how this affects the price instantly.
  • hi, after asking i did a price comparison and for my citreon picasso the cheapest i was quoted was £570 so i did go to a broker to see what they could do for a like for like quote,,,
the broker phoned me and got me a quote for £430 which i was delighted, maybe people should do the same because by heck for a few moments away from the computer i saved £140 quid.
